Marisa Boysen is a born and raised Floridian. She grew up in Gainesville, Florida and graduated highschool from Buchholz, she was also on the tennis team. For college, she left the lovely state of Florida and temporarily moved to North Carolina where she graduated from Elon College in 1995 with a BA in English. Although North Carolina is beautiful she could not wait to return to her home state. After college she began her training to become a lawyer at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville. She graduated Florida Coastal with a concentration in litigation and won an award for “Best Plaintiff Team” in Florida Coastal’ s Second Annual Oral Advocacy Tournament, for Civil Dispute Resolution II in April of 1998. She passed the bar and became a member of the Florida Bar in April 2002.
Knowing that her focus would always be litigation, she applied for and was hired by the Public Defenders Office in Collier County by then Public Defender Robert Jacobs. Starting in misdemeanor, handling first appearances, Baker Acts, violations of probation, trials, and appeals, she worked her way up to felony, handling trafficking cases, sex cases, gun cases including 10-20-Life.
